FALMOUTH (AP) — Maine transportation officials shut down one lane on a heavily traveled section of interstate highway outside of Portland after a steel joint broke loose.

The Department of Transportation says one southbound lane of Interstate 295 in Falmouth was closed Wednesday afternoon on the bridge that crosses the Presumpscot River.

Officials said workers had to chip away concrete, replace the steel joint and apply new fast-setting concrete to fix the problem.
