FREEPORT — The topseeded Freeport High School girls lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-2 halftime lead and cruised to a 16-4 Eastern Maine Class B semifinal victory over No. 5 Gardiner (2-12) on Saturday.

Jess Hench led the way for the 7-6 Falcons with four goals and two assists. Bethanie Knighton and Alex Mitch added three goals each, while Julia Dearden picked up a pair of goals, Becca Lane, Jocelyn Davee, Eli Pier and Meredith Broderick one score each, and Mia Thomas and Emily Johnson one assist apiece.

In goal, Freeport netminder Molly Lane had four saves, with strong defense turned in by Katie Turner and Megan Peacock.

Allyson Day led the Tigers with two goals. Ricki Bryant and Julia Wainwright added a goal each.

Freeport is slated to host 7-6 Yarmouth on Wednesday in the Eastern B final.

Grace O’Donnell scored six goals as the host Clippers rolled to an Eastern B semifinal win over the third-seeded Shipbuilders.

“We thought that we played as well as we could for the longest stretches of time this season,” said Morse coach Linda Levesque, whose team, despite a 4-9 record, picked up key wins over Class A teams Cony and Edward Little this season. “Yarmouth capitalized on every missed defensive rotation, and our first shot went wide.”

Morse battled hard throughout the first half, trailing just 3-1 and just missing on several good opportunities. But, Yarmouth pulled away from there for a 9-2 halftime lead despite seven firsthalf saves from goaltender Crystal Leavitt, who finished with 10 stops.

The Shipbuilders showed their fight early in the second half, scoring the first two goals to close to 9-4.

Tori Field, Christina Stuart and Shannon Rice were the goal scorers for Morse, while Erica Pierce chipped in three scores for Yarmouth, while Julia Kameisha and Jeanna Lowery added two goals apiece. Clippers netminder Jordan Brown turned aside five shots.
