MANSFIELD, Conn. — The Wheaton College baseball team defeated Western New England College, 2-0, in the championship game of the New England Regional on Sunday to advance to this upcoming weekend’s Division III College World Series.
Wheaton will face Webster University at Grand Chute, Wis., on Friday.
Former Brunswick student/ athlete David Longley pitched in three of Wheaton’s (38-9) five games in the Regional, going 3.1 innings on four hits, two walks, one strikeout and one earned run allowed.
Longley, one of Wheaton’s captains, has a 3-0 record this season with a sterling 0.90 earned-run average. He has thrown 30 innings, permitting 22 hits, seven walks and three earned runs with 26 strikeouts.
