FREEPORT — The Freeport Community Library will host a special Memorial Day event at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Ed Bonney and Rick Simard will share their experiences of interviewing and recording the stories of four local veterans: Arthur Cooper, Martin Bailey, Ken Brown and Ed Fogg.
The two-year process of researching, interviewing, recording and editing the veterans’ stories now comprises a video-taped series titled “Conversations with Ed Bonney,” and clips from the series will be shown during Wednesday’s program.
The veterans served in various branches of the military during World War II. Ed Fogg in the Navy worked on a landing craft transport carrying troops to the South Pacific. Also in the Navy, Martin Bailey, served as a powder rammer on the battleship Texas.
In the Army, Ken Brown, served in the 106th Infantry, while Arthur Cooper flew aboard a B-17 as a bombardier.
Library staff hope that some, if not all, of the veterans will be in attendance.
Admission is free. For more information, visit www.freeportlibrary.com.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
