FREEPORT — In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Freeport Community Library will present “Rhythm and Rhyme,” a jazz and poetry celebration at 6:30 p.m. today.
Cul de Sax, a saxophone quartet made up of local musicians Susan Nourse, Paul Aliapoulios, Jim Huebener and Chris Gutscher, will perform.
After the sax music, Maine poets Gary Lawless, Nancy Henry and Ken Nye will read from their works.
An open microphone period at which anyone can share their poetry is planned.
The evening will conclude with a duet in which professional cellist and Portland Conservatory of Music teacher Robin Jellis accompanies recitations by poet and performer Pam Blake.
Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
