The Friendly's ice cream shop and restaurant at Cook’s Corner in Brunswick closed abruptly Monday. A sign on the door of the locked building Tuesday reads, “To our valued customers: We are sorry to inform you that we have closed our doors for business.” In October 2011, the company closed 63 restaurants — including sites in Freeport, Ellsworth and Lewiston — after filing for bankruptcy. Following that announcement, the Bangor Daily News reported that the company, Friendly Ice Cream Corp., of Wilbraham, Mass., had secured $70 million in financing and that it would keep 424 remaining restaurants open. Attempts to contact representatives of the Brunswick branch proved unsuccessful Tuesday and this morning.
