BRUNSWICK — In connection with a nationwide effort sponsored by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, local law enforcement and community service agencies will collect unwanted or unused medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at six locations in the Mid-coast region.

Collections will take place at: West Bath Fire Department, State Road; Richmond Senior Center, Front Street; McLellan Building, 85 Union St., Brunswick; Topsham Municipal Building, 100 Main St.; Phippsburg Fire Department, Main Road; and Harpswell Town Office, Mountain Road.

“The purpose of the medication collection is to give citizens a safe, environmentally sound disposal option for unwanted, outdated medications,” a press release from organizers states. “Storing medications in the home can put children and adults at danger of unintentional over dose. Prescription drug misuse around the country also indicates the need for this safe disposal.”

All unused, unwanted and outdated prescriptions, overthe counter and veterinary medications, including all household pills, ointments and drops, will be accepted.

Needles and thermometers cannot be accepted. Medications should be brought in the original container. Use a black magic marker to conceal names on labels if desired.
