BELFAST (AP) — The man charged in what police say was a drug-related killing of a Florida firefighter is expected to make his initial court appearance in Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast.
David Porter, 24, is to appear before a judge today.
Porter, who had been living in Jackson, is charged with killing 31-year-old Jerry Perdomo of Orange City, Fla. Perdomo disappeared in Maine on Feb. 16 and his body was recovered Wednesday in the woods of Newburgh.
Police have not said how he died. An autopsy is expected to begin today at the earliest.
Police said that Porter and Perdomo were involved in drugs and had exchanged death threats in January.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
