Ray Cornils will mark the 25th year as minister of music at First Parish Church on March 4 when he leads the 80-voice First Parish Choir in a performance of Franz Joseph Haydn’s “The Creation.”
The choir will be joined by nationally recognized soloists Jayne West, soprano, Jason McStoots, tenor, and Robert Honeysucker, baritone.
“This is Haydn’s wonderful oratorio about the seven days when God created the earth,” a release from First Parish Church states. “It is probably his most important work.”
The concert will begin at 3 p.m. March 4 at Orion Performing Arts Center, Mt. Ararat Middle School, 50 Republic Ave., Topsham.
Tickets cost $15 apiece or two for $25 in advance by going online to www.firstparishmusic.com/. Students will be admitted free.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Cornlis will offer a pre-concert lecture to the community at First Parish Church. Cornils will speak about Haydn’s background “and how he created this marvelous work so, people can fully appreciate the upcoming performance.”
