Top ranked Hyde School of Bath jumped out to an early 17-2 lead and never looked back Saturday as it easily dispatched No. 8 Buckfield High School 60-40 in the quarterfinal round of the Western Maine Boys Class D basketball tournament at the Augusta Civic Center. AUGUSTA — Top- seeded Hyde School raced out to a 13- 2 lead in the first four minutes and pulled away from there for a 60-40 victory over No. 8 Buckfield in a Western Maine Class D quarterfinal boys high school basketball game at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday.

Jonah Alexander had 16 points for the Phoenix, who will face No. 5 Vinalhaven (a 63- 46 winner over No. 4 Greenville) on Wednesday in the Western D semifinals at 11:30 a.m. at the Civic Center. The other semifinal pits No. 2 Forest Hills against No. 3 Valley at 10 a.m.

Hyde (16-1) led 20-9 after a quarter, 34-17 at the half and 48-31 through three quarters.

Tyquan Ekejiuba had 10 points for Hyde, while Austin Dooley picked up a game-high 19 points for 8-12 Buckfield. Alan Hedrick finished with nine.
