BIDDEFORD — The University of New England has moved up four spots to second in the Northeast Region, as announced by the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship Committee.

The NCAA has regional advisory committees that rank the top-six teams from eight geographic areas, with the exception of the Northeast, which puts together a list of 10 teams out of the 81 in the region.

Big Blue appeared in the sixth spot a week ago in the initial release of the regional rankings, and now trails unbeaten Amherst (24-0).

Five-foot-11 junior Beth Suggs of Bath has played in all 23 games, making 102 of 217 shots for a 13.6 scoring average with a team-leading 190 rebounds and 47 assists. UNE has outscored its opponents 77-57.

The Nor’easters defeated Endicott on Tuesday night to improve 20-4 on the season and clinch the top seed for the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship with a league mark of 15-2. UNE wraps up the regularseason with Western New England University on Saturday.
