To the editor:
I was outraged when I read the local commentary from Art Boulay (“Let professionals make demolition calls in Brunswick,” Feb. 10) and learned what it’s costing Brunswick taxpayers in legal fees every time the Village Review Board votes against allowing owners to tear down unwanted buildings.
Maybe it’s time to look in to whether we really need the Village Review Board or give them less power. Do we really need all these boards to make up our minds on what to save, what to build and what to do?
These are our tax dollars. Maybe we need fewer boards to help save money for our school needs, given that the school department faces new cuts.
Not all Brunswick residents feel we need to save every old, unsafe, out-of-date building in the town. At some point, we need to remove some to save some or make way for new.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
