To the editor:
I would like to thank Brunswick Codes Enforcement Officer Jeff Hutchinson and the town staff for their actions to avoid a disaster by condemning the home at 77 Pleasant St., Brunswick. It was a difficult situation, but inaction could easily have led to injury or even death.
The tenants’ situation is regrettable, but for one of them to say, according to the report, “ My life has been destroyed, and I hold the town of Brunswick responsible,” is to misplace the blame.
To judge from the report, the blame lies squarely with the deadbeat landlord who for months failed to communicate with the rental manager, the residents and the town.
The town’s course of action was clear, and they did the right thing to ensure the safety of the residents. They deserve our thanks for their diligence.
Robert Judd,
Brunswick

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
