ORONO — University of Maine women’s basketball coach Richard Barron is set to host the Black Bear Sportsmanship Academy on Jan. 28 between games at Alfond Family Lounge.
All children in grades kindergarten to eighth-grade who attend either game are invited to attend the event for free. The activities are scheduled to start at approximately 3:45 p.m. at the conclusion of the men’s basketball game against Binghamton.
Barron will talk to the group about the importance of good sportsmanship and the studentathletes will be leading some fun activities to also promote good sportsmanship.
There will also be time to make posters and get your face painted for the women’s game at 4:30 p.m., also against Binghamton.
The Black Bear Sportsmanship Academy is part of the America East Conference S.T.A.R.S. (Student-Athletes Advancing Respect through Sports) initiative, which was created as a way to interact with youth and help develop their sense of sportsmanship.
