ESSEX, Vt. — The Mt. Ararat and Lisbon high school wrestling teams traveled to Vermont for the 2012 Michael J. Baker Classic at Essex High School Jan. 20-21.
The Eagles featured five grapplers finishing in the topfive, led by fourth-place showings from Felipe Gunter, Brandon Jusseaume and Max Mondonedo. Jacob Kenney and Emory Hudson earned fifth place.
Gunter went 2- 2 at 132 pounds, including a pinfall loss to Jackson Boworth of Maranacook in the thirdplace match. Jusseaume (195 pounds) also finished 2-2, losing by fall in the third-place bout, while Mondonedo (285) earned two pins before falling for a second time to Maranacook’s Nick Ricker in the third-place match.
Kenney (106) lost his first match, but reeled off three wins in his final four matches, while Hudson ( 113) followed a similar path on his way to fifth.
Lisbon’s Zach Stevens earned a fourth-place finish at 120 pounds, dropping two decisions while picking up a pair of pinfall victories, while teammate Tyler Bard ( 126) was sixth after a 2-3 showing.
Brunswick’s Jared Jensen advanced to the 152- pound championship match after picking up four wins via pinfall. In the final, Jensen fell to Colchester High School’s (Vermont) Chris Lash 7-2.
