St. John’s girls earn two wins

BRUNSWICK — The St. John’s School girls basketball team picked up a pair of wins recently, downing Lincolnville, 40-8, before rolling past Jefferson 43-14.

Against Lincolnville, St. John’s led 10-0 after a quarter, 22-2 at the half and 34-4 after three.

Top scorers for St. John’s were Emma Harrington with 12 points, Madaline Suhr with 10 and Lilah Pashley with five.

Kiera Hayes paced Lincolnville with six points.

Versus Jefferson, a good start propelled St. John’s to a big lead as the visitors led 14-0 after a quarter, 25-4 at the break and 37-10 heading to the fourth quarter.

Harrington again led in scoring with 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Koralei Fifield chipped in eight points and played strong on the defensive end, while Pearl Wilson added six points.

Jefferson was led by Lillian Bisset with six points and Samantha Burke with four.

St. John’s is 7-1 and visits Vinalhaven on Friday.

Mt. Ararat JV girls pick up victories

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat High School jayvee girls basketball team shook off a poor start in earning a 34-28 victory over Oxford Hills in recent action.

The Eagles trailed 8-1 after a quarter, but took a 17-12 to the half. Oxford Hills battled back for a 28-26 advantage after 24 minutes.

Kristen Pierce led Mt. Ararat with eight points, with Olivia Swan chipping in seven. For Oxford, Michelle Johnson led all scorers with 16 points.

Against Erskine Academy, the Eagles improved to 2-1 with a 41-34 victory.

In a close game, Mt. Ararat trailed 24- 23 at the half, but took a 37-31 lead to the fourth quarter.

Lindsey Cornelison led Mt. Ararat with 16 points, with Allison Melcher adding seven points. Libby Davis, Priscilla Whitney and Rebecca Shuman played well on defense.

Tasha Dutil led Erskine with 11 points.

Freeport JV boys fall to Lakers

FREEPORT — Connor Dietrich led all scorers with 18 points for Freeport, but the Falcons fell to 1-2 with a 63-41 loss to Lake Region on Saturday.

The Lakers posted quarter leads of 18-13, 34-20 and 45-33.

Joe Cushman chipped in 10 points for the Falcons, while Mark McDougal paced Lake Region with 15 points.

Mt. Ararat 7th boys stay perfect

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team upped its record to 3-0 with a 45-25 win over Tripp Middle School on Monday.

Cole Guerin led the Eagles’ offense with 15 points, while Kyle Brown and Jimmy Pelletier chipped in seven and six points, respectively.

Cam Cox, Jacob O’Neil, Elliott Bowie and Eagan Eldridge turned in strong floor games for Mt. Ararat.

Eli Coider led Tripp with 13 points and was a force on defense.

Mt. Ararat 8th boys move mark to 3-0

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team improved to 3-0 Monday with a 44- 35 win over Tripp of Turner.

The Eagles led 14-12, 26-17 and 37-28 at the quarter breaks.

Shy Ulrickson led the Eagles with 20 points, while Garrett Bolduc had eight and Alex LaFountain six. Sean McMullen and Dee Stupinski also played standout games.

Max Greene paced Tripp with 16 points and Chad Morin had five.

At the foul line, Mt. Ararat was seven of 17 and Tripp eight of 20.

Eagles 8th girls fall at Tripp Middle

TURNER — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team, after a strong defensive first half, ran out of steam and dropped its game against Tripp Middle School, 33-16, on Monday.

Mt. Ararat was led by Erin Tome with nine points, while Tripp was paced by Chantel Eells with 18 and Delanie Stout chipped in nine.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon JV hockey ties Brunswick

BRUNSWICK — The Mt. Ararat/Lisbon jayvee ice hockey team tied Brunswick 3-3 in recent action.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon scored one goal in each period. Evan Tome had a goal and an assist, and Ben Bishop and Allen Leach each one goal for Mt. Ararat, while Sam Munsey and Jeremy Hart each picked up an assist.

Anne McIntire and Taylor Pare were defensive standouts for the Eagles.

Mt. Ararat 7th girls beat Tripp 27-24

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team beat Tripp on Monday.

Leading scorers for Mt. Ararat were Anna Manuel (10), Karley McCourt (4) and Lauren Labbay (4), while Nikki Bradstreet, Samantha Gonyea, Sabrina Paetow and Kate Guerin were offensive contributors.

Woolwich boys run mark to 8-0

WOOLWICH — The Woolwich Central School boys basketball team played two recent games and now stand at 8-0.

In the first game Woolwich hosted Lincolnville and held quarterly leads of 25- 5, 39- 12 and 59- 17, with the final score, 77-24.

Top scorers included Zack Fifield ( 21), Dakota Freeman ( 20), Jacob Cressey (14, along with 11 rebounds) and Henry Geoffrion (12). Tyler Young was solid on the defensive end.

Lincolnville’s Morgan Mercier led his team with 13 points.

Woolwich also hosted Jefferson and won 71-26, with periods leads of 26-4, 42- 12 and 59-22.

Top scorers included Fifield (24, with 15 rebounds), Freeman ( 14, eight steals), Cressey (12, six assists), Geoffrion (8) and Evan Parsons (6).

Woolwich visits Vinalhaven on Friday.

Mt. Ararat JV boys get past Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN — The Mt. Ararat High School jayvee boys basketball team beat Skowhegan 52-29 on Tuesday.

The Eagles posted quarterly leads of 16-4, 28-12 and 39-20, with Mason Griffin scoring 19 points, Joe Thomas and Gabe Pelletier nine each, and Riley Texateria eight.

At the foul line, the Eagles were 15 of 28 and Skowhegan seven of 15,

Mt. Ararat also held a 30-22 rebounding edge, with Griffin grabbing nine and Thomas seven. Pelletier dished out seven assists and Griffin Stockford had four.

Brunswick freshman boys hoops now 4-0

BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School freshman boys basketball team won its last two game and now stands at 4-0.

Brunswick beat Edward Little recently 58-39 and toppled Oxford Hills 57-23 on Tuesday.

In the EL game, the Dragons were led offensively by Alex Bandouveres with 11 points, Cedric Lewis nine, Pearson Cost and Cam Glover eight each and Isaac Hughes seven. Defensively Glover, Taran Payne and Mitchell Smith each had four steals, and Lewis was a leading rebounder with six boards.

Versus Oxford Hills, Brunswick was led by Lewis with 11, Bandouveres with 10, Cost eight and Smith seven. Eric Kousky led defensively with nine steals, and Lewis and Smith had five.

Morse frosh boys open with victory

BATH — The Morse High School freshman boys basketball team beat Gardiner 68-56 in its season opener on Tuesday.

Morse led 16-15, 36-30 and 49-44 at the breaks.

Ethan Winglass led the way with 28 points, while Casey Watson had 14 and Josh Dunning 10.

Brad Bailey scored 13 points for the Tigers, while Chase Begin had 11 and Alex LaPointe 10.

Watson also grabbed 10 rebounds and Winglass had eight caroms.

At the foul line, Morse was 18 of 31 and Gardiner four of 12.

Morse JV girls fall ot Gardiner

GARDINER — The Morse High School jayvee girls fell to 1-2 Tuesday with a 45-31 loss to Gardiner.

The Shipbuilders led 8-6 and 18-16 after the first two quarters, but fell behind 28-26 after three.

From the foul line, Morse was 10 of 26 and Gardiner 11 of 18.

Morse top scorers were Leia Graves with eight points, Alli Barter and Sophie Sreden with six each, and Megan Hixon with five.

Rachel Quirion scored 16 points for 4- 0 Gardiner.

Morse defensive standouts were Paige Martin and Taylor Johnson.
