BRUNSWICK
A 28-year-old man spotted running into the woods behind Zach’s General Store on Gurnet Road early this morning was arrested on several charges following a brief chase by Brunswick police.
Officers responded at 1:23 a.m. to the store — formerly Eldridge’s General Store — at 641 Gurnet Road, after receiving a report that a male wearing a black sweatshirt was seen running into the woods behind the store, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said today.
Officers spotted the man in the woods, called for a canine unit to track him, and then, after a brief chase, caught the man farther down Gurnet Road, Hagan said.
Martin Olson, 28, whose address was unknown this morning, was charged with refusal to submit to arrest or detention, violation of conditions of release and on a Somerset County warrant for theft by deception.
Police also seized ammunition because Olson is a convicted felon, Hagan said. Information about what charges he was previously convicted of was not immediately available today.
Police took Olson to Cumberland County Jail, where he was held on $1,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on Jan. 17.
