A Gray man was seriously injured last night when his car crashed into a tree on the Gloucester Hill Road in New Gloucester.

Eric Bruns, 28, suffered internal and head injuries after his car left the road and hit a tree at around 9:30 Sunday night. He had to be removed from his vehicle by rescue personnel using the Jaws of Life, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said. Bruns was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Authorities are now investigating the crash, and said initial evidence points to speed and possibly alcohol as contributing factors.
