The following is a selection of calls received by the Bridgton Police Department from Jan. 28-Feb. 4.
Joy riding
On Jan. 28 a Maine Department of Transportation employee reported that a red Chevy truck had been towing a snowboarder back and forth, and was now leaving the old town hall. Police did not make contact with the subjects.
Hey, I just plowed that
Bridgton’s Public Works Director asked an officer on Jan. 28 to go to a house on Pond Road because the residents were plowing snow out of the driveway and into the roadway.
Yellow pages request
On Jan. 28 a woman called to request a number for a man who restores cars and used to live in Bridgton. The caller was advised that he now lives in East Baldwin.
Planticide
A North High Street woman reported on Jan. 28 that someone tried or succeeded to break into her house. She thought it might have been her ex-boyfriend, who also put ammonia in her plants.
Forced to a stop
A woman called on Jan. 27 to report that a drunk man in a blue Dodge caravan hit a stop sign at Sam Ingalls Road and Whitney Road. He was trying to dig his car out, she said, but he was really stuck. The man was arrested for operating under the influence, for the third time, and operating while his license was suspended, for the second time.
I don’t remember that uncle
On Jan. 27 a Bridgton man reported a letter he thought was an attempt at fraud. It was allegedly from an employee at Chinese National Bank, and it said he had a relative who passed away and left behind millions of dollars. The caller was referred to the postmaster general.
What’s in season?
On Feb. 2 a Fryeburg man reported a male subject in camouflage carrying a backpack and hunting rifle. The caller said he didn’t think hunting was allowed this time of year. A town office employee advised that hunting was allowed for coyotes, red squirrels, woodchucks and porcupines.
In a hurry
A Bridgton man called on Feb. 2 to report a black Hyundai Sonata that passed four cars and a school bus before turning down Willett Road.
Psychic
On Feb. 3 a Bridgton woman called to say she thought a man she knew was suicidal. She said she is a psychic and just woke up to hear and see water rushing where he is. She thought he might jump off the dam. The call was unfounded.
Hardly worth the drive
On Feb. 3 a detective with the Conway Police dropped off an envelope with $3.24 in change from a lost wallet that belonged to a resident of Bridge Crossings.
Too slow
A Bridgton man reported on Feb. 3 that an older woman with a poodle in the car was driving her gray Oldsmobile 30 mph from Windham to Bridgton. Police did not make contact with the woman or the dog.
Little cold for cycling
A woman called on Feb. 4 to report that several bicycles were stolen from under the porch of a Norman Lane family’s house and there were footprints in the snow leading to the house.
Hey, I just shoveled that
A North High Street man reported on Feb. 4 that the town plowed snow into his driveway. The man wanted someone from the public works department to remove the snow so his wife could go to work. The Bridgton Public Works Director advised that it was a Department of Transportation problem.
