Moms and daughters eat

The Women’s Guild of the North Windham Union Church, United Church of Christ will hold a mother-daughter banquet Saturday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the church parish hall.

The menu features savory chicken puffs with all the fixings. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 3-10 and children under 3 eat free. To reserve tickets, call 892-1127 or 893-1562.

A bill to discuss

The Windham Child Care Providers will be sponsoring a discussion Thursday, May 1, on the bill recently passed by the Maine Legislature regarding an organized day care union in Maine.

The discussion will be held at 7 p.m., at the Windham Public Library. The guest speakers will be Sen. Bill Diamond, D-Cumberland, and Reps. Gary Plummer, R-Windham, and Mark Bryant, D-Windham. For more information call Donna Cobb 892-2002.

Happy Birthday

Gemma Rose Evans turned 1 April 9. There was a party on April 12, with family and friends. Gemma is the daughter of Courtney and James Evans. She is the proud sister of Sophia James and Anthony Evans.

The Windham Clothes Closet is in need of good used girls spring and summer clothing, sizes 2 through 16.

Off to Belfast

Elsie Haskell, the Great Pocahontas for the State of Maine Degree of Pocahontas, made her official visitation April 21 to the Osceola Council 47 in Belfast. Joining her were Virginia Flaherty, Diane Savage and Edith Arey.

Historical society news

The Windham Historical Society museum and genealogy research facility at 234 Windham Center Road is open to the public Thursdays and Saturdays beginning May 1. Hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Do you, like many, have a box of old faded photographs of people you don’t know? Help may be here.

David Mishkin, a nationally recognized authority on photographic processes and old photographs, will present a program on this topic at the Windham Historical Society meeting, Monday, April 28, at 7 p.m. at the historical society headquarters, the brick building at 234 Windham Center Road.

Mishkin will explain how to recognize the differences between tintype, daguerreotype, albumen and salt print. This will help pinpoint what generation a relative may have belonged to. If you have some old pictures, faded and with no identification, you may be able to find out when they were taken.

The public is invited to this free program. Donations are welcome and tax deductible. The society is a nonprofit educational organization.

Time for beans

Friends Church, on Route 202 in Windham, will be holding its semi-annual bean supper Saturday, May 3 from 5-6:30 p.m. The menu includes baked beans, brown bread, salads, pies, coffee and punch. The cost is $6 for adults and $1 for children under 12.

On display

Works by artist Warren Swetz of Windham are currently on display at the Windham Public Library through April 30. There are 18 beautiful photographs on exhibit, all of local subjects or landmarks. Healing classes

Unity Church of Greater Portland, at 54 River Road, in Windham will be offering a new series of classes entitled “You Can Heal Your Life” based on the popular book with new video of the same name written by Louise Hay.

The class will be conducted at the Unity sanctuary by Rev. Judy James every Thursday evening in May from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Hay’s new video will be shown in the Unity sanctuary at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday April 27. The public is welcome to attend and love offerings will be accepted. For more information, contact the church office at 893-1233.
