An elderly Standish man was indicted Feb. 6 by a Cumberland County grand jury for manslaughter and reckless conduct more than a year after he struck and killed a 17-year-old boy.

Manslaughter is a Class A felony and carries a maximum sentence of 40 years. Reckless conduct is a Class C felony and carries a charge of up to five years.

On Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. Lincoln Turner, now 71, hit Frank Rideout of Standish with his pickup truck while the teenager was walking near the intersection of Route 25 and Woodcrest Road in Standish. Turner had apparently fallen asleep at the wheel and Rideout was sent more than 25 feet in the air from the impact.

Turner had been awake since 3 a.m. that morning. He worked a shift at the Maine Mall and was returning home after working out at a gym.
