Sebago Lake Ice Fishing

Though Sebago Lake itself is not frozen (yet) signs point to a strong ice fishing season. Due to winter-like temperatures in December, most of the smaller and medium sized ponds have ice on them.

But with many storms producing large quantities of snow, thick black-ice formation, will not be present early in the season, which traditionally starts on Jan. 1.

There are some statewide regulation changes this season. The minimum length on bass has been lowered from 12 inches to 10 inches. Also, fishing is no longer restricted to daytime hours, anglers are now allowed under general law, to fish all hours of the day and night.

Sebago Lake itself has consistently remained one of the top picks for great lake trout over the last few years. In 2007, lake trout were found to be fatter and of better quality than in 2006. Tougue exceeding 23 inches were commonly reported caught from Sebago Lake. Jigging, is an especially effective method of fishing on the lake.

Many of you may have noticed that you can no longer pick up your state and local tax forms at the post office, where they had been available in the past. Spaulding Memorial Library has a few federal and many state income tax forms, so hurry in and get yours, before they are all gone.
