Stewart Vreeland, president of Vreeland Marketing & Design in Yarmouth and a Gray resident, was recently presented with the Conwell Award at the Maine Advertising Club’s biennial Broderson Awards.

The award, first established in 1981 and named in the memory of Richard Conwell, recognizes individuals for their contributions to the industry and the community, as well as their creative ability.

Vreeland graduated from Drake University with an art degree and from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism with a masters in advertising journalism. He then began his career in marketing as art director and TV producer at J. Walter Thompson in Chicago. In 1978, he and his wife, Midge, a 1994 recipient of the Conwell Award, established Vreeland Marketing & Design.

Vreeland continues to do pro bono marketing work for several clients, including the Spannocchia Foundation, a Maine-based Italian non-profit organization. Both he and his wife have served as adjunct faculty members at St. Joseph’s College of Maine.
