Two Westbrook children returned home safely around 4 p.m. Friday after being reported missing early Friday morning.
“I’m so ecstatic. I’m so grateful,” said David Ojiem, 33, of Brackett Street, about being reunited with his children, Gregory Ojiem, 5, and Jamar Ojiem, 1.
The children’s mother, Galena Ojiem, 26, had disappeared with the children after being served with a temporary protection from abuse order Thursday.
Westbrook Police Chief Bill Baker said Detective Sean Lally was able to negotiate with the mother. She surrendered the children to the Department of Health and Human Services and a relative brought them home to their father. Galena Ojiem was arrested, charged with criminal restraint and violating a protection order and brought to Cumberland County Jail.
According to Ojiem, he plans to divorce his wife, who he has been married to for seven years, and pursue full custody of the children.
As Ojiem waited for his children to arrive at his house Friday, he said he didn’t know where they had been, and, for the time being, he wasn’t too concerned.
“I’m just glad they’re home,” he said.
