Last Saturday, with less than a week of planning, Busque Construction owner Peter Busque hosted a Busque Stone Quarry Funday at the land on Nash Road in Windham he hopes to develop into a quarry.
The event mainly attracted supporters of the Busque quarry proposal, as well as folks wanting to have some outdoor fun on a relatively mild day.
Busque said his volunteers estimated that between 1,000 and 1,500 people attended the event. The day featured horse-drawn sleigh rides through the proposed Winner’s Circle Trail Park that Busque said will be open to the public only if his quarry application is approved by the town.
There was a free barbecue lunch and magic show, as well as pony rides and a bouncing rubber room for kids. The event was advertised on Frank FM and The Bone radio stations.
On Thursday night, Busque decided to include a charity auction for Windham Youth Soccer and Little League baseball. Auctioneer Stef Keenan said more than $1,700 was raised for Windham Youth Soccer and Little League baseball with items donated by local businesses.
This businesses were: Auburn Concrete, Amatos, Corsetti’s, Charlie Beiggs, Roosevelt Trail Nursery, Rampart Bituminous, McCrackens Motorcycle Shop, Mad Mikes Custom Detailing, Colluci’s Market, Approved Home Mortgage, Rampart Bituminous, Moonshine Signs, Bear Hill’s Rick Yost and Busque Construction.
