Barns were essential to the farming community Windham once was. This old lop-sided barn has been taken down, but it was once located on Falmouth Road, directly across from McIntosh Cemetery. A Windham native remembered her aunt telling of the caskets of Jeremiah Field and his wife Mariah Doughty Field being moved from the property beside this old barn, across the road and into the “new” McIntosh Cemetery. Mr. Field died in 1842. The Field’s farmhouse was also moved to the Falmouth Road, but was removed several years ago. Windham Historical Society is collecting photos of old barns for a display to be mounted this spring. If you have information on any old barns in Windham, please contact Kay Soldier.
