The three-story brick structure at the corner of State and School streets has long been known as the Masonic building. It was once owned by Harmony Lodge. The bottom floor is occupied by Sierra’s, a restaurant, and the Campus Bookstore. A former occupant, C.E. Carll Insurance Agency, is now on Main Street. Ninety years ago, a fire destroyed a portion of the building that was rebuilt. It once housed Gorham Savings Bank and the post office. Bertha Bridges Willis wrote in her book, “The Way It Was in Gorham,” that Charles G. Alden built the foundation from stones from a quarry in Alden’s Woods.
