Police used a Taser to take 41-year-old Gorham man into custody Sunday afternoon at the man’s home on Shelby Drive.

James Woodbury faces charges of reckless conduct with a weapon, terrorizing and criminal threatening with a weapon, police said.

Responding to a report that Woodbury was suicidal, Sgt. Daniel Young located the man at his home at 5:50 p.m. According to the police report, “Woodbury came out of his house agitated and intoxicated.”

After an argument, police said, Woodbury ran into the house and Young retreated behind a cruiser. Police said Woodbury reappeared with a shotgun. After about five minutes, he threw the shotgun onto the lawn from a deck.

Other officers arrived at the scene and took up positions around the house. Police said Woodbury, coming down from the deck, charged Officer Dean Hannon, telling Hannon to shoot him.

Hannon then used his Taser to incapacitate Woodbury. Police took Woodbury into custody and he was taken to Maine Medical Center.
