Editor,

I have known Al Austin for years, and am pleased to support him in his re-election as our Cumberland County Commissioner. He has been very active in our communities over the years, as a true volunteer leader.

He is currently Citizen of the Year selected by the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber of Commerce and concurrently is the Volunteer of the Year, selected by the Maine State Chamber in Augusta. His past volunteer efforts are too extensive to enumerate here, but include Past President Brunswick Rotary Club, Past President Maine Association of Realtors, Past President Shoreline Community Mental Health Services, and Past Campaign Chair United Way of Mid Coast Maine.

Al was a member of the NASB/BRAC Task Force executive committee for the over two-year effort to save our Navy base and chaired the Bath/Brunswick Regional Chamber of Commerce successful effort in support of the critical Bath Iron Works TIF legislation to modernize and develop the new land level/launching facility at the shipyard, where our “best shipbuilders in the world” build our amazing surface combatant ships.

He has earned our support for this important role as our incumbent chairman of the Board, District III Cumberland County Commissioner.
