Editor,
I believe that ordinance changes should only be done by well educated, well informed people and include those who will take all sides into consideration. This would be fair to the group who wants the change and fair to the existing businesses in the town who this change will affect.
The group that has brought forward this ordinance to be voted on Nov. 7 was written filled with their frustration, panic and emotional feelings. It was done in haste, one-sided and made retroactive for only one reason. To stop the Busque Quarry before it received acceptance from the Planning Board and Town Council. Keep in mind Mr. (Peter) Busque has followed all the rules, regulations and ordinances of the town, state and federal government and this piece of land was used as a Quarry many years ago.
We can do better.
When an ordinance needs to be changed the proper way would be to have the town ordinance committee with the proper people involved, review and research if and what changes need to be made. This takes time and a lot of patience but would be fair to all.
Surgeons do not perform surgery on their own family members because of their emotional involvement. It would be dangerous. Why would we vote for an ordinance that was written by a handful of people filled with their own desperation? It is not fair.
Please vote against this referendum on Nov. 7 and if this ordinance is not working properly now, have it done the right and fair way.
