Even in 1939, schools had the most modern, up to date equipment that included these treadle sewing machines, egg beaters and electric ranges. This view of the Home Economics classroom at Windham High School shows the lack of ergonomic chairs, however. Back in those days, no one worried about such things. Only females took home economics, which included about a half-year of sewing and a half-year of cooking. At one time this class was called Domestic Science.
