Army Specialist Sean Thomas, the son of Cynthia Austin of Windham and Scott D. Thomas of York, was awarded the Bronze Star for exceptionally meritorious service during Operation IRAQI Freedom. He successfully conducted more than 150 combat patrols in and around the city of Samarra. He was in numerous fire fights, completed more than 50 overwatch missions of the area, and was responsible for the fact that no IED’s (improvised explosive devices) had been placed or mortar attacks conducted during his watch.
Specialist Thomas conducted raids with Tactical Force Scouts, Bravo and Charlie Company as both the security element and as an entry team member in which he was directly responsible for finding several caches of weapons, ammo, and bomb-making materials. He is presently assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis, Washington.
