In photos: The last day at Anania’s Variety on Congress Street

On Friday, a steady flow of regulars came into Anania’s Variety on Congress Street in Portland to get their coffee, order their favorite sandwich – and say their goodbyes. It was the last day of operation for the popular store and deli run by Ed and Barbara Anania, who decided earlier this year to retire so they can travel and spend more time with their grandchildren. Staff photographer Gregory Rec was there on their last day of business.
