Portland is its own enemy everywhere on the field in suffering a 13-5 setback.
Kevin Thomas
Kevin Thomas does not always write about baseball. It just seems that way, starting with his early days covering spring training for the St. Petersburg Times, to his current role of bi-locating at both Hadlock Field and Fenway Park, reporting on the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox. In the off-season, he still writes about baseball, while venturing to hockey rinks and basketball arenas, especially when it comes to the University of Maine and local colleges. Thomas has received awards for his work, but his greatest prize is home, which includes one patient wife, nine children and an aging chocolate Labrador.
Sea Dogs pummeled by Aeros, 13-5
New outfielder Ronald Bermudez was one bright spot, with a 4-for-5 day, with one RBI.
Sea Dogs done in by Aeros’ pitching
Brock Huntzinger’s fine start is wasted when Portland strikes out 15 times in a 3-0 setback.
Sea Dogs 9, Aeros 2: A parade of floaters
Charlie Haeger’s knuckleball and Dan Butler’s catching are supported by a 14-hit offense.
Curve in command, right from the start
Altoona pitcher Kyle McPherson shows the Sea Dogs why he’s on Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster.
Haeger flaunts his floater
Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger makes a successful debut with the Sea Dogs, stopping Altoona for a rain-shortened victory.
That just-short feeling
Mitch Dening just misses a homer in the ninth that would have tied the game. Instead, a loss.

He walked off the mound after the top of the first inning, down 3-0, having thrown 31 pitches, allowing […]
On Baseball: Maine Day at Fenway Park honors all kinds of heroes
BOSTON – Recognizable mascots like Slugger (Sea Dogs), Crusher (Red Claws) and Bananas (University of Maine) patrolled Fenway Park before the game. There was a touching moment when Staff Sgt. Melissa Larson of Portland received a standing ovation while standing atop the Red Sox dugout, and a cute incident when special education teacher Janice Bigos […]
On Baseball: Lavarnway making push for promotion to majors
PAWTUCKET – It is easy to think of the word “dominance” when considering Ryan Lavarnway’s start in Triple-A Pawtucket. Through Friday, Lavarnway has played 35 games in Triple-A. He’s batting .381 (51 of 134) with 13 home runs and 36 RBI. His on-base percentage is .450. Put that with his .769 slugging average and the […]
