Ada B. Moore

NORWAY – Ada Moore was born in Boston, on Feb. 15, 1939, the youngest of Rena and Ivory Burnell’s six children. She attended schools in Melrose, Mass., but the best part of every year was the summer, which she would spend in West Baldwin. She loved to wake up to the sound of the whip-poor-will, smell her beloved Aunt Marion’s cooking, and feel the sun soaking into her skin.

West Baldwin was where she met her husband, George Moore. They were married at Trinity Episcopal in Melrose on Nov. 12, 1955. In 1959 they moved to Topsham, where they raised their five children (and quite a few beloved cats).

Family meant everything to Ada, but “family” was not limited to those who were biologically related. There was always room at the dinner table for one more, be it someone the kids dragged home or a friend of the family who happened to be in town at dinnertime.

Ada worked as the seamstress at Smith’s Cleaners in Bath for over 20 years; she could always figure out a way to tailor something new or repair something old.

Ada was an active lay leader at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick, serving in many roles, including altar guild, lector, vestry member and healing team. She was one of the very first female licensed eucharistic ministers at St. Paul’s. Her faith was founded in the love of God and sustained her through the most difficult parts of her life.

In 2023 she moved to Norway, where she lived with her daughter until her death on May 29, 2025. She will be missed by her family, friends, and a certain Siamese cat named William. In the days leading up to her death, she said she wanted everyone to know that she had lived a full, happy life, she had no regrets, and she was ready to move on. She took her last breath surrounded by loved ones who were laughing at a story that illustrated her humor, kindness and common sense.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Andwell Hospice for the care and companionship they provided in the last weeks of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband, George; her daughter, Sherry; her four brothers and one sister. She is survived by sons George Jr./Buddy (Sharon) and Eric (Marty), daughters Linda (Bob) and Nancy; beloved sister-in-law, Louise; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick on June 28 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Memorial Garden immediately after the service.

Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris.

Memorial gifts may be made to: Christ Episcopal Church, 35 Paris Street, Norway, 04268 or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 195, Brunswick, 04011.
