Alan G. Williams

HARPSWELL – Alan G. Williams (Uncle Al), 90, passed away at his home on May 20, 2025, surrounded by family.

He was born in Somerville, Mass., and was the youngest child born to Samuel and Beulah (Barter) Williams. After his mother died in childbirth, Alan went to live with extended family in Bath, Maine and attended schools there. In 1951 he joined the United States Air Force and in 1954 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Sabol. Alan and Dot travelled around the world due to his military service and after he retired from the Air Force in 1971, he moved his family to South Harpswell in 1972, where he continued to live until his death.

Alan was very proud of his military service. He fought for his country in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Alan attended Airborne School and two different Survival Schools. While in Vietnam, he flew 101 Combat Flight Missions. Alan earned numerous awards and medals throughout his military career including The Combat Readiness Medal.

After retiring from the military. Alan worked as a Service Manager at Brunswick Toyota. He then worked at Bath Iron Works until his retirement in 1997. While working for BIW, Alan and his son Larry operated their side business, Williams Construction.

Some of Alan’s greatest joys in life were motorcycling with his son while stationed in California, lobster fishing with his daughter, snowmobiling with family in northern Maine at their camp in Rangeley and then Millinocket, and later in life, fishing numerous lakes in Maine with his best friend, Larry Weathers. Alan loved spending time in his shop working with his hands on various projects. He was known for his ability to fix anything and could build anything you asked him to. He was known to stop and help out anyone that needed it. Alan fiercely loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Dot with whom he shared 70 years of marriage, their daughter Vickie McGlauflin and her husband Dale, a daughter-in-law Tracy Williams, four grandchildren Christy, Peter, Michael and Emily, seven great-grandchildren, Ciera, Garrett, Tyi, Paige, Dasha, Josie and Matti, and four great-great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Duncan, Ryker and Octaveah. He is also survived by his fur baby, Gigi #6.

He was predeceased by his son Larry Williams, who left us too soon in 2016, along with all of his siblings, Keith, Russell, Beatty, Jody and Sonny.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 14, at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, at 10 a.m., with a reception immediately following at the Brunswick Elks Lodge, 179 Park Row, Brunswick.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Stetson’s Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick.
