Police say that Yarmouth resident Donald Harding, 75, died in a car crash that shut down Pleasant Hill Road in Brunswick late Wednesday morning.
A second driver involved in the crash, Jeremy Saxton, 45, of Harpswell, didn’t suffer any injuries, according to Brunswick Police Chief Scott Stewart.
Stewart said a preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that Saxton was driving a 2019 Chevy pickup west on Pleasant Hill Road when Harding, driving a 2013 Ford Edge south on Baribeau Drive, pulled into Saxton’s path.
Emergency personnel, two fire department vehicles and a police car were on the scene at the T-intersection of Baribeau Drive and Pleasant Hill Road around 10:55 a.m. Police announced on social media that they closed the intersection at Pleasant Hill Rd and Baribeau Drive around noon, asking drivers to seek alternate routes.
Witness photos shared with The Times Record show damage to the front of a black pickup truck, which appears to be situated in the middle of Pleasant Hill Road, which is littered with debris. The second vehicle, a red SUV, was stopped on the same road about 20 feet away with a tarp covering the front windows.
While the investigation is still ongoing, Stewart said in a press release that both were wearing seatbelts and air bags had deployed.
