BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College senior Ben Torda has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week.
Torda became the first Bowdoin individual to win the Maine State Championship since Coby Horowitz in 2013, covering the 8K Pickard Field course in a time of 25:25.3 and winning by over 17 seconds.
It was the second win of the season for Torda, who also claimed the season-opening Bowdoin Invitational on Sept. 16.
The Polar Bears, who finished second at the state meet, will return to action this weekend as they travel to Pineland Farms in New Gloucester for the 2017 NESCAC Championship meet.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
