PORTLAND (AP) — The former head of the Maine Turnpike Authority — convicted of what has been called one of the most egregious cases of public corruption in state history — is due to be released from prison.
Paul Violette is due to be released from prison on today.
He has served less than 20 monthsofa31/2-yearsentence and will spend the rest of his sentence, to be completed in early 2015, under home confinement.
Violette was sentenced in 2012 for stealing as much as $230,000 from the authority from 2003 to 2010.
Once he’s out of prison, he must perform 1,500 hours of community service.
