BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin junior John Swords has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Swords led the Polar Bears to a 3-0 week
A seven-foot center, Swords posted three doubledoubles last week, averaging 20 points and 12.7 rebounds and connecting on a mindboggling .903 percent of his shots (28-of-31).
He scored 25 points on 12- of-13 shooting with 16 caroms in a mid-week win over Southern Maine, before scoring 18 points to go with 12 rebounds against Bates and recording 17 points and 10 boards against Colby. Swords shot 8-of-9 from the floor in both games. He also blocked five shots over the three wins.
The Polar Bears will close out their fall semester with a home contest Friday night against Maine-Farmington (7 p.m.).

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
