TOPSHAM — Down East Insurance Agency President Melanie Munsey recently announced that the agency, a credit union service organization wholly owned by Down East Credit Union, has purchased Freedom Insurance of Unity.
According to a news release, this will be the fourth office for Down East Insurance Agency, which has its headquarters in Topsham.
Munsey commented that she is extremely happy with the addition of the Unity office to the Down East Insurance family and added “with the addition of this office, we can offer our services in more communities served by our parent company, Down East Credit Union.”
Established in 1999, Down East Insurance also has agents in Baileyville, Topsham and Richmond. In addition to serving all personal lines, DEIA also offers commercial lines and employer/employee benefits.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
