LUCKNOW, India (AP) — At least 23 members of a wedding party have been killed after their bus collided with a truck in northern India.
Police spokesman Surendra Srivastava says 36 other passengers were injured in the pre- dawn crash today in Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh state.
Srivastava says the impact of the head-on collision was so great that 23 people died instantly.
The bride and groom were traveling separately in a car and escaped the crash, which occurred on a country road with no streetlights.
India, the world’s second most populous nation, has the highest annual road death toll.
