FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team was honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for its work in the classroom with the Gladiator by SGI/ NFHCA Division III National Academic Award.
Additionally, seven UMF student/ athletes were also named to the Gladiator by SGI/ NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
The Beavers have received the National Academic Award for nine consecutive seasons. The award honors a team that has achieved a combined grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the season.
Senior Jennifer Bernhardt, a four-year honoree, led the Beavers’ selections for the National Academic Squad. Bernhardt was joined by classmate Monica Beuth, juniors Emma Daniel, Felisha Taylor and Elise Theriault, sophomore Hannah Goodenow of Freeport and freshman Chelsea Morley.
The National Academic Squad recognizes those student/ athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2011-2012 academic year.
