PORTLAND (AP) — Utility crews are working to restore power to thousands of electric customers after high winds caused widespread outages.

Emera Maine says customers began losing power Thursday evening. By early today, 11,500 were still in the dark.

The utility says the storm’s wind and rain pummeled

Maine, “wreaking havoc on the electric system.” Waldo, Androscoggin and Penobscot counties are among the hardest hit.
