BRUNSWICK
A Topsham man was taken to a Brunswick hospital Thursday after rolling his vehicle over near the back entrance of Brunswick Landing.
The crash was reported at 12:12 p.m. Brunswick Police Cdmr. Marc Hagan said 59- year-old Terence Smith of Topsham was driving a 2004 Buick north on Merriconeag Road when he was allegedly distracted by a phone and almost drove off the left side of the road. He over-corrected and drove off the right side of the road and rolled several times, Hagan said.
Smith was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, where he was treated and released.
Hagan said police are investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors. Lt. Tom Garrepy is reconstructing the crash.
A short time later at 2:28 p.m., a vehicle struck a fire hydrant on Arrowhead Drive. A vehicle driven by a 17-year-old attempting to turn right onto Arrowhead Drive from Woodside Road lost control and sheered off a fire hydrant.
Neither the driver or passenger were hurt. The Brunswick Water District was called to fix the hydrant.
