SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The Bowdoin College track and field team opened its outdoor season last week at the Santa Barbara Easter Relays, earning several wins in the non-scoring meet.

For the women’s team, Michele Kaufman won the 100- meter hurdles ( 15.76), while Katherine Harmon took first in the hammer throw (139-55). Other strong individual performances included Anna Ackerman placing second in the 3,000 steeplechase ( 11: 29.55) and Laura Peterson earning second in the triple jump ( 35- 04.50).

In the relay events, the women’s4x800teamofMaggie Bryan, Alana Menendez, Madelena Rizzo and Michelle Lawson placed second (10:00.02),whilethe4x200 team of Elsa Millett, Emily Barr, Samantha Copland and Bryan also took second (1:49.32).

The women’s distance medley relay squad of Bryan, Millett, Rizzo and Ackerman (12:45.89) also earned a runner up finish.

For the Bowdoin men, Riker Wikoff took first in the 400 hurdles (54.58), while the Polar Bears claimed a pair of relaywinsinmen’s4x800 (Colin Fong, Colin Ogilvie, Christian Sleeper and Nicholas Saba, 8:04.23) and the distance medley (Ogilvie, Matthew Gamache, Fong and Saba, 10:37.62).

Mason Moss took a runnerup finish in the javelin (181- 10).

The Polar Bears are scheduled return to action on April 7 when they travel to compete in the Middlebury Invitational.
