GORHAM — Thirteen University of Southern Maine Huskies Fall student-athletes have been recognized by the Little East Conference for their outstanding academic achievements, earning spots on the 2015-2016 Little East Conference Winter All-Academic Team.
Student-athletes from all four of Southern Maine’s four sponsored winter championship teams have representatives on the academic squad: men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s indoor track and field, and women’s indoor track and field.
To earn the distinguished award, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher through the Fall 2015 semester, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. The student-athlete must also be a full-time member of a varsity sport and be enrolled in its institution for a full academic year.
Freeport’s Mitch Loeman is a two-time honoree.
Loeman, a reserve guard for the men’s basketball team, is an Exercise Science major and a two-time William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete and LEC All-Academic honoree.
Playing in 39 games during his career as a Husky, Loeman’s ability to knock down long-range treys helped USM to its best overall record, 15-11, since the 2012-2013 season and its best Little East Conference record, 9-5, since the 1990-1991 season.
