WEST BATH — Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department investigators continue to probe a rash of car burglary reports in the Foster’s Point Road area of West Bath.

The first in a series of thefts from vehicles was reported Thursday morning. Items stolen include change, compact discs and a bag of chips.

Shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, a resident on Foster’s Point Road reported that someone entered his unlocked car, which was parked in his driveway, the previous night and took a TomTom GPS devise, according to Lt. Calvin Temple.

A second call came in Thursday at about 7:30 a.m. Two unlocked vehicles in a driveway on Hill Road were burglarized some time after 9 p.m. Wednesday. The thief or thieves swiped 40 CDs from one vehicle and about 20 CDs from the other. Also stolen was some change and a radio transmitter. The victim reported that the household’s dogs never barked.

The crime spree continued Friday. Between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., the sheriff ’s department received four additional complaints from Foster’s Point Road residents.

One vehicle owner reported the theft of approximately $10 from a vehicle. Another reported the theft of a knitting bag, which was recovered by a neighbor, and a cellular TracFone.

Three minutes later a third complainant reported that someone had rummaged through a vehicle and purloined paperwork. A neighbor subsequently found some of the paperwork and returned it to its owner.

At 4:04 p.m. Friday, Temple said, a Foster’s Point resident reported hearing a car door slam around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. He later found the plastic was pulled down under the steering column and the glove box was open. An intruder allegedly absconded with a green bag of sour cream and onion chips he’d left in the car.
