BRUNSWICK — In Cal Ripken Major League Division Baseball on Monday, Play It Again Sports beat Ray Labbe, 9-8.
Play It Again got out to an early five-run lead by the end of the third inning. But, Ray Labbe’s bats came alive with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Down 8-5 in the top of the sixth inning, Ray Labbe tied the game with one swing of David Gordon’s bat when he blasted a three-run home run.
Tied 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Sam Sharpe lifted a sacrifice fly to score Joey Quattropani from third base for the game-winning run.
Labbe’s offensive standouts were Gordon (who also had an RBI double), Aaron Gary (two doubles, two RBIs) and Sam Dorval (double, two RBIs). Nate Girardin and Gary combined for eight strikeouts in four innings pitched for Labbe.
Lincoln Sullivan had two hits, and Tobyn Blatt, Finn Mitchell and Max Friedman each had a hit for Play It Again Sports. Mitchell pitched three innings, striking out six, walking two and allowing no runs or hits.
