Bowdoinham is celebrating Open Farm Day on Sunday, July 20.

The day will begin with farm tours of nine farms – six of which have been preserved as “Forever Farms”. Pick up a brochure at the Bowdoinham Town Office or many other locations for directions and times.

The farms open for the tours are:

1. Campo di Fiori.

212 Fisher Rd., 9am-4pm. Naturalistic gardens, an experimental hybrid hazelnut orchard and new nursery.

2. Apple Creek Farm

448 Millay Rd 9: 30amnoon. Come enjoy pasture walks and meeting the livestock. Products will be available for sale including: beef, lamb, goat, chicken, eggs, sheep & goat skins as well as pre-orders for geese and turkeys.

3. Gruff Acres Farm

919 Post Rd 9am- 3pm. Come see the beautiful gardens, meet the goats, alpacas & hens, and try goat meat and homemade cheese samples.

Carlson Cross Road 1-4 p.m. Come meet farmer Ben and tour his organic vegetable farm located in the heart of Bowdoinham.

5. Blue Bell Farm

767 Carding Machine Rd Noon-4pm. Join us in welcoming David & Meredith to Bowdoinham! Come tour the hoop-houses, feed the chickens, and a take a stroll through the fields.

6. Stonecipher Farm

1186 River Rd Noon -3pm. Come visit Ian and his 65- acre Forever Farm, dig up some carrots and cool off in the giant sprinkler.

554 Browns Point Rd 9am-noon. Come tour Pete & Cathy’s Bowdoinham fields and enjoy some samples of fruit shortcake.

8. Fishbowl Farm

497 Browns Point Rd 9am- noon. Come experience one of Maine Farmland Trust’s Forever Farms on beautiful Merrymeeting Bay. Please park along Browns Point Road and walk to fields as signage directs.

9. Six River Farm

513 Browns Point Rd 9amnoon Come discover a diverse array of vegetables, berries, herbs, and cut flowers along Merrymeeting Bay. Please park by the greenhouses.

At 3 p.m. the celebration will continue at Mailly Waterfront Park for a barbecue featuring fresh foods from local farms and live music by Steamboat Gypsy, a dynamic folk trio featuring vibrant fiddle, crisp songwriting, and luscious rhythms! The Barbecue will be catered by A’muse Catering. Chef Bryan Leary was born in New Hampshire and, having moved to many different states, he found that making meals for others was a great way to make new friends. He has worked formally in the hospitality industry for 18 years and is still passionate for the art of cooking and the wonderful way good food can bring people together.
